Dinaco was founded in 1937 by Kurt Riess, born in Germany, and the North-Americans Leslie Weldon and Carl Toone, who were joined later by Felix Sicherman and Robert Dreifus, both German, Paul Xavier Émile Hupfer, French, and Nahun Kaplan, Brazilian.

Those men brought together a solid cultural and commercial background, the ability to adapt to changes and the courage to innovate, along with business ethics and the desire to build long-term commercial relationships based in openness and mutual respect. This is why some of Dinaco’s representations date back to several decades.

Up to the 60’s, Dinaco acted solely as commercial representative for important foreign manufacturers such as B.F.Goodrich (now Noveon), Rhône Poulenc, Solvay, Allied-Signal (now Honeywell) and National Distillers.

Dinaco was pioneer in the introduction of several products in the Brazilian market, such as: PVC, low density polyethylene, stabilizers and inorganic pigments, nylon and cellulose acetate, and also supplied the equipment necessary to the implantation of national industries, as injectors and extruders. After 1960 the company expanded its operations, beginning the importation of products from its principals for local resale.

In 1965, Scandiflex do Brasil was founded, in a joint venture with the Danish manufacturer Scandiflex, whose plasticizers were sold in Brazil by Dinaco. This company now belongs entirely to the Dinaco shareholders and is the Brazilian manufacturer with the most complete line of monomeric and polymeric plasticizers.

With the opening of importations as of the 90’s, Dinaco concentrated its focus on the distribution of chemical specialties, and today represents approximately 15 of the world’s most important manufacturers, supplying specialties for the cosmetics, pharmaceutical, rubber, plastics, household and paints & varnishes segments.

Currently, one family of the original shareholders controls 100% of Dinaco – the Kaplan family – and a member of the second generation is actively engaged in the management of the company, through Alexandre Kaplan, president.
